The collection was established in 2017 as a specific museographic/ethnographic unit with the aim of conservation and communication of objects related to the beginning, development and modernity of visual anthropology and ethnographic museology in the Republic of Croatia. It consists of about a hundred original devices for recording and reproducing images, sound and multimedia, accompanying media for storing materials and other related equipment used by the employees of the Ethnographic Museum and the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore in their daily work and field research in the period from the mid-20th to the first decades of the 21st century. Given that ethnologists can rightfully be considered pioneers of technical photography in Croatia, this collection presents a unique view of the technical aspect of collecting ethnographic material, which is a very significant, but unfortunately currently insufficiently researched part of ethnology/cultural anthropology in the national context.
