Slide Archive

The Slide Archive was founded in the late 1920s as an auxiliary archive in which materials used for public lectures were initially stored, while since the 1970s, slides have also been used for the purposes of documenting objects from the museum's holdings and making reproductions for printing. It includes around 8,000 units of various dimensions, the majority of which are classic 35mm film inserted into plastic or cardboard slides. It is particularly interesting because since 1934, 8 and 16mm films containing original field recordings started to be included in it, and this practice continued until the beginning of the 20th century by recording ethnographic films, as well as guest appearances by museum employees in television shows on VHS media. After the reorganization of the Audiovisual Collections (from 2015 to 2020), film and video materials were separated and inventoried in the newly established Film Archive.
