In line with contemporary museological tendencies of collecting materials from the present and expanding the research subjects of ethnology and cultural anthropology to the everyday life of all social classes, in 2015 was created the Collection of Contemporary Clothing. The establishment of the Collection was prompted by the work on the exhibition "What a great pair of shoes! A walk through the history of footwear” whose concept included an overview of the development of footwear to the present day, not only from rural but also urban environments. The initial core consists of pieces collected by acquisition or donation for the needs of the exhibition. The Collection also includes objects from collections of traditional costumes inspired by rural costumes, but intended for urban clothing with the aim of awakening and strengthening national consciousness. The Contemporary Clothing Collection currently has around 450 objects and has the greatest potential for development in terms of acquiring objects through thematic projects and in terms of incorporating new technologies into the collection policy, but also in research work and development of terminology. Namely, digital technology is no longer just an aid, but is becoming a (co)creator of content that does not necessarily have a material form but can be virtual. The collection is significant in documenting domestic craft and industrial production, as well as contemporary design in the context of accelerated global changes.
